RECAP: LUFC Wins its Home Opener Against Vancouver

April 30, 2018

Eugene, OR – Lane United FC held their home opener April 28 under the lights and in heavy rain at Les Schwab Sports Park. With a slew of goals from different players, LUFC walked away with a resounding 4-0 win over the Vancouver Victory.

The Lane United scoring started in the first half at the 28th minute from a good header by Sean Dorman off  of a corner and again at the 43rd minute from a shot from Calvin Mitchell to go into half with a 2-0 lead. Coach John Galas made several changes at half to give players minutes as the squad is still being solidified, but you wouldn’t have been able to tell as LUFC notched their third goal in the 57th with an unassisted goal by Alex Baker as the ball bounced around the box after a corner, that was finally punched in by Baker. The scoring finished off in the 67th minute with a Vancouver Victory own goal.

Facing Vancouver Victory
Saturday marked the Vancouver Victory’s second game of the season, and they came to Les Schwab Sports Park with a 3-0 win over North Idaho College.

Lane United FC debut

As this was LUFC’s first game of the season and the squad’s first time playing together, expectations from Coach John Galas were to give trialists and rostered players minutes to give everyone a first glance of this year’s team.

(2018 LUFC home field rendering)

This season the Reds will be playing on a new pitch so they can have a better playing surface. It will be a great new field for the boys. Having said that, the permanent bleachers around the new field won’t be installed until the league home opener on May 20. There will be limited seating but plenty of standing room, and the Red Aces grand stand behind the goal.

As always, Lane United’s favorite beer and ciders will be available at the game, brought to you by Oakshire Brewing and 2Towns Cider house. This game will feature one of Eugene’s favorite food trucks, Taco Intrusion. And this season’s LUFC kits and other new merchandise will be available to purchase at our march tent.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the home opener this Saturday to cheer the Reds onto a successful 2018 season!

2018 Roster Updates: Stadler to Return and Newcomer Willie Spurr

LUFC is proud to announce the return of our fearless captain and three time Red, Jon Stadler.

Jon Stadler – A solid defender transferred from Oregon State to Milwaukee after his freshman season. Steady backline presence earned him Second Team All-Horizon League honors following his junior season. Stadler set career-highs in games playing all 19 games logging 1,634 minutes. He helped his team record six shutouts.

“I honestly didn’t think we would sign Jon this year, as he recently finished up with college career and was really close to singing a pro contract.  I’m a bit surprised he hasn’t latched on somewhere to be honest, but I think I can speak for all us here at the club when I say we are delighted to welcome him back.  He brings great experience, leadership and passion each and every day and he will certainly strengthen our back line this year as we look to improve on that from last year.  Our goal for Jon is to make sure he has a good campaign for us, stays in good form and hopefully gets picked up by a USL club.” Says John Galas

Willie Spurr – A four year starter at the Evergreen State College, Spurr helped lead his team to its best record in school history his senior season. Spurr notched 25 goals and 11 assists in 72 collegiate games. He earned himself Cascade Collegiate Conference Newcomer of the Year his freshman season and All-CCC First Team accolades all for years. He achieved All-American Honorable Mention his final season. Spurr has also competed with the TimbersU23s and the Kitsap Pumas.
“Willie brings great experience in this league, most recently having played for the Timbers U-23’s last year in their inaugural season in Salem.  He was a key part of their success last year and brings a wealth of technical ability, and can play in a variety of attacking positions.  He fits our style of play well and I think he will enjoy his time here at the club.” – John Galas

LUFC Announces 2018 Jersey sponsors: Oakshire Brewing and 2Towns Cider House

April 23, 2018

We are very excited to announce this year’s returning title sponsor featured on the front of the 2018 kits, Oakshire Brewing. In February 2014, Eugene-based Oakshire Brewing became Lane United’s exclusive jersey sponsor for the 2014-16 seasons. We are thrilled to continue this great partnership and keep Oakshire as our front of jersey sponsor for the 2018 season. Much like their cider, 2 Towns Ciderhouse is bold, unique, and filled with energy. They are committed to fostering an environment of fairness, empowerment, and security. They believe craft beverages should be simple, so we simply use the whole fruits that nature provides, and nothing else.
