Match Recap: LUFC vs Sounders U23

May 20, 2018

Eugene, OR- This afternoon’s match against Sounders U23 proved to be the first big challenge for the Red’s as they fell to a 3-1 loss. The match was looking good for the Reds when it opened up with a Lane United goal in the 12th minute by Willie Spurr assisted by Gloire Amanda. Though a hard fought first 45 minutes, the remainder of the first half was played in the midfield, with only a few chances weighing a little more towards the Sounders.

The second half started slow but built into a strong 10 minute stretch for the Sounders when they scored three consecutive goals spanning the 61st and 70th minutes. The first goal of the year for Sounders U23 was by Santiago Patino. That was followed quickly by a second in the 65th minute by Ozzie Ramos and the scoring finished for the day in the 70th minute with the Sounders third and final goal, another by Patino.

“This was a game of two halves. Full credit to Sounders for capitalizing on their chances in the second half. I thought we managed the first half well, and unfortunately we weren’t as sharp as we needed to be in the second. When we needed to make plays we didn’t. They were as advertised, hard working disciplined and dangerous on sets and their strikers certainly made it difficult for us in the second half.” Said coach John Galas.

This was the first game of the season for the Sounders U23 and the second league match for Lane United. Today’s result gives LUFC a 1-1 record in the PDL Northwest Conference league play. The Reds are away for back to back matches, May 25th in Canada for a match against Victoria Highlanders followed by another game against the Sounders 23 in Seattle on the 27th. Lane United will return home again on Friday a June 1 for a darby match against local rivals, Timbers U23.
