Lane United Reveals 2016 Home and Away Kits

March 16, 2016

On Sunday, Lane United FC held their 2016 Kit Launch Party at Oakshire Public House. The event provided fans with a chance to get a first-look at the new home and away jersey designs for the 2016 season as well as sneak a peak of new Club Shop merchandise. The party kicked off at 1:00pm and featured a fashion show of the new jerseys and merchandise that included LUFC fans and former players as models.

The new jerseys featured some changes from last year. The red home jerseys incorporate more of LUFC’s signature red than in previous years. They also included a collared neckline, custom LUFC numbers, and the new Oakshire logo. The away jerseys are white with blue and green accents and were inspired by Cascadia’s strong soccer culture. The Pacific Northwest soccer community has been incredibly welcoming to the club over the past three years so we wanted to demonstrate our support and  love for the Cascadia community through these jerseys. The kit features the Cascadia flag on the back of the neckline and custom LUFC numbers. Fans were able to pre-order jerseys at the event and the new kits will be available through the LUFC Club Shop in the coming weeks. Both jerseys will be available in men’s, women’s, and youth sizes.

Stay tuned to our website, Facebook, and Twitter pages for more event and club announcements over the coming weeks!

Lane United Nominated for Two PDL National Awards

November 12, 2014

Lane United FC, Eugene’s semi-professional soccer team, has been nominated for two separate national PDL awards by the governing United Soccer Leagues (USL), the club announced Wednesday.

Lane United was one of four organizations nominated for the Premier Development League’s Rookie Franchise of the Year award. Lane United began play in the PDL in 2014 and were one of eight first-year franchises in the league nationwide. The other nominees were the Albuquerque Sol, the Cincinnati Dutch Lions, and the San Jose Earthquakes U23.

The Reds were also one of four nominees for the PDL Marketing Award. Lane United joined the Austin Aztex, FC Tucson, and Northwest Division rivals the Victoria Highlanders as the four clubs selected from all 64 PDL franchises eligible for the award.

The winners of the awards will be announced at the United Soccer Leagues’ Annual General Meeting, held December 10-14 in Florida. Lane United directors Dave and John Galas will attend the conference.

Oakshire Cup Raises Over $1,000 for Kidsports

October 10, 2014

Lane United FC’s inaugural charity soccer-golf tournament, the Oakshire Cup, was held on August 30 and was able to raise over $1,000 for the Eugene-based nonprofit Kidsports, the club announced earlier this week. The event, which was held onthe ShortRidge soccer-golf course at the RiverRidge complex in north Eugene, drew 72 participants, according to Dave Galas, Lane United’s managing director. “Registration filled up well in advance and everyone at the event had a great time,” Galas said. “In spite of the one day of rain, with the help of Oakshire, RiverRidge, TwoTowns, Agate Alley, and our supporters the Red Aces we were able to put on a wonderful event, have a lot fun, and all for a good cause. We’re thrilled to have been able to contribute so much to Kidsports from the inaugural tournament, and I am really excited about the future of the event.”

Kidsports is a Eugene-based non-profit organization that has provided a wide range of sports teams and programs for children of all ages since its founding in 1953. Oakshire Brewing is a considerably newer business, founded in 2006 and recently opened its Public House in the Whiteaker neighborhood of Eugene. Oakshire is the title sponsor and leading partner of Lane United FC.

Soccer-golf, a sport in which players kick soccer balls into appropriately scaled holes on golf-course layouts, has experienced a rapid nationwide growth in the past two years. RiverRidge’s soccer-golf course opened in late June of 2014.

Ticket Donation Initiative Underway for Springfield Students

May 14, 2014

Agnes Stewart Middle School, which is directly south of Lane United’s home field at the Willamalane Center, sent its soccer-playing students to watch practice on Wednesday as part of a field trip. Fans will be able to donate match tickets to students of the school in exchange for a merchandise discount voucher.

The Red Aces and Lane United are very pleased to announce an initiative to provide tickets for Lane United home match to local soccer-playing youth. Matthew Auxier, a Red Aces member and social studies teacher at Agnes Stewart Middle School, directly adjacent to the Willamalane Center, combined with Lane United managing director Dave Galas to launch the initiative: fans will be able to donate tickets to students at the middle school in exchange for a voucher for 10% off all Lane United merchandise at the club store.

“We were well aware through Matt (Auxier) of the huge interest in soccer among the Agnes Stewart student body,” said Dave Galas, Lane United’s managing director. “However, we also knew that a lot of kids in the neighborhood and the school might not have the luxury of being able to buy tickets for all of the games. I knew this was a win-win situation the moment Matt suggested it to us.”

Several busloads of students from Agnes Stewart, all of whom play soccer, got to attend Lane United’s training session on Wednesday, May 14 as part of a field trip. At the conclusion of the session, they met Lane United players, got autographs signed and were given six soccer balls by the club.

Fans who want to donate tickets are encouraged to contact Dave Galas at Lane United for the time being. Donation centers will be set up at home games and at the Oakshire Public House in the future; updates will be posted on the website and Lane United’s social media outlets when that is the case.

Lane United FC Roster Nears Completion with Addition of Three Attackers

April 24, 2014

Lane United FC is close to completing its full roster for the 2014 inaugural season with the addition of three more players, all attack-minded, announced Thursday. Conner Bevans, a forward from Gonzaga, and two internationally raised players, Chico Sastre of Brazil and Pipo Peralt of Spain, have joined the team, according to head coach John Galas.

Bevans grew up in Anaheim, California, where he was a standout athlete at Servite High School, winning Orange County Player of the Year honors after his senior season, in which he recorded 27 goals and 14 assists. So far at Gonzaga, he has enjoyed regular playing time and finished second on the team in goals as a sophomore. He also adds a year of PDL playing experience to the Lane United team, as he spent the summer of 2013 in Arizona playing for FC Tucson. Galas praised Bevans for his “tireless work rate,” and added that “Conner will certainly set the tone for us defensively as we press high up the field.” Bevans will be joining fellow Gonzaga Bulldog Chris Lowrimore on Lane United in 2014.

Joining Bevans up front will be another standout striker, the Brazilian Francisco “Chico” Sastre. Sastre hails from São Paulo, Brazil, but began attending Post University in Waterbury, CT in 2012. Despite the fact that he led the Eagles in scoring in 2013, “his main pedigree is setting up others to score,” Galas said. “I think our fans will really appreciate his crafty, selfless play.” Galas said he was “thrilled” to partner Sastre with Bevans and Lane United’s other forwards, Pancho Vizcaino and Rolando Velazquez.

Alex “Pipo” Peralt, the third player to join Lane United in recent days, will travel from Spain to play for the Reds this summer. Peralt grew up in Valencia and has played with Ciutat de Valencia CFB and Mislata CF, the latter a fourth-division club in Spain. Galas said that Peralt was recommended to him by a coaching contact in Valencia, and after meeting Peralt on a recent trip to Spain, he was happy to bring him into the club. Galas called Peralt “a great one-on-one player with loads of skill who can play as a true wide midfield player or more centrally in a three-person midfield.”

Twenty players are now signed on to play for Lane United, and four more will be announced next week, according to Galas. The first out-of-town players will have arrived by the end of April, he said. Basic information about all the players on the squad so far is available at the roster page.

Lane United Reveals More 2014 Squad Members

March 12, 2014

Lane United FC introduced on Wednesday four players who will play for the Reds for the club’s inaugural season in the Premier Development League (PDL) in 2014, pending league approval. The announcement comes after two previous blocks of recruiting commitments were finalized, one in February and one at the end of January. The total number of players committed to play for Lane United in 2014 now stands at 15.

Three of the four highlighted players are internationally born and raised but are current student-athletes at American Division I universities. Germans Christian Dietrich and Martin Lukaschik play for Fairleigh-Dickinson University in New Jersey, while Briton Pierce Kiembi currently attends the University of Texas at Brownsville. The fourth player, Mikhail Doholis, plays for Oregon State and hails from Vancouver, Washington.

Lukaschik, according to head coach John Galas, was recommended by another college player that Lane United was targeting (who then ended up with Werder Bremen in Germany). Galas called Lukaschik a “box-to-box central midfielder with the engine to get up and down the field for 90 minutes.” He started nearly every game for Fairleigh-Dickinson in 2013 and finished tied for second on the team in goals.

Lukaschik’s countryman and college teammate Dietrich was also a regular starter at Fairleigh-Dickinson, averaging 70 minutes per game. “A lot of his work doesn’t show up in the box score,” said Galas, “but as a solid outside midfielder he will complement our style of play and has great tactical understanding of the game.” Dietrich grew up training in the FC Union Berlin youth system in Germany.

Kiembi, the Brit, “reached out to us,” Galas mentioned, “and said he wanted the challenge and responsibility of helping a new club grow.” Since initially moving to the U.S. to begin school and play soccer at Bryan College in Tennessee, Kiembi has transferred to UT-Brownsville and in the meantime has played a season with the PDL side River City Rovers in Louisville, KY. Galas called him “a big, strong, athletic player who can be put anywhere in the midfield.” Kiembi was a regular starter for Brownsville in 2013.

Galas complimented the final recruit, the Northwest native Doholis, on his technical ability as an attacking midfielder and made reference to the fact that he started all but one game for the Beavers as a sophomore in 2013. He also enjoyed significant playing time as a freshman the year before. In high school, he played with fellow Lane United recruit Brenden Anderson in Gresham, OR, on the national championship-winning ESUFC Liverpool club side, in addition to being part of the U.S. U-17 national team residency program.

All 15 of Lane United’s currently committed and introduced players may be found on the roster page of our site.
