Lane United FC’s standout striker Timothy Mueller has been named to the USL PDL’s All-League team, the league announced Tuesday. Mueller was tied for fourth nationwide and led the entire Northwest Division with nine goals in eleven games, and bagged thirteen overall in all competitions. He had been named to the All-Western Conference team a day earlier. On May 23, he scored a first-half hat trick against Puget Sound Gunners; two weeks later on June 5 at home against Calgary Foothills FC, he scored to begin a streak of six straight games with at least one goal.
Mueller seems to bang in goals wherever he goes, as he led the Oregon State Beavers with eleven goals as a freshman in 2014 on their way to an NCAA tournament appearance. He missed the last game of the 2015 Lane United season, away at Calgary Foothills FC, to train with Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer.
The Northwest Division is one of three in the PDL’s Western Conference, along with the Mountain and Southwest Divisions. The Northwest nonetheless contributed eight of the eleven all-Western Conference players, bolstering its reputation as one of the most competitive divisions in the league nationally.
“Timmy was a real joy to coach this past summer,” said Lane United head coach and sporting director John Galas. “He has a competitive nature second to none and is very coachable. He was a constantly working to improve is game this summer and had a real thirst to learn our system. He adjusted very well and was a threat to score in every game he played. We look forward to working with him in the future to help his development. I’m excited to head up to Corvallis to watch him and the other OSU boys play this fall.”
Mueller will play for the Beavers this fall as a sophomore.
Lane United FC were named the Premier Development League’s Rookie Franchise of the Year for 2014 in an awards ceremony in Clearwater Beach, Florida this past weekend.
The Eugene-based soccer club, which was founded in 2013 and played its first season in the Northwest Division of the nationwide PDL in the summer of 2014, received the award at the governing United Soccer League’s Annual General Meeting on Saturday.
Lane United were one of four franchises, out of seven first-year franchises total in the 64-team league, that were nominated for the award. A PDL spokesman said that the award “is given to the first-year team that exemplifies the league’s standards on and off the field,” and that the decision was made by consensus of league officials.
“It was our honor to identify Lane United FC as the 2014 Rookie Franchise of the Year,” said the PDL senior director, Todd Eason. “Lane United has been one of the most efficient clubs that the PDL has had the privilege to work with. The club’s attention to detail was the one factor that separated it from the other candidates, and I look forward to seeing the club continue to be one of the best operating and functioning clubs in the PDL.”
Lane United directors Dave and John Galas were on hand to receive the award in Florida. “We thank the USL PDL for recognizing our hard work this past year and honoring us with the Rookie Franchise of the Year award,” John Galas said. “In addition, we thank our partners, notably our title sponsor Oakshire Brewery. Without the support of our partners and our supporters group, the Red Aces, our players, backroom staff, and all our fans, this club would not be in the position it is in today. Finally, Lane United FC owes a huge amount of gratitude to our ownership group, in particular Dave Elmore and Joe Hawes. Without their continued trust and vision, none of this would have been possible.”
Lane United FC begin their 2015 season in May. Home matches are at the Willamalane Center in Springfield. For more information about the club, visit laneunitedfc.com.
