2018 Roster Updates: Stadler to Return and Newcomer Willie Spurr

April 26, 2018

LUFC is proud to announce the return of our fearless captain and three time Red, Jon Stadler.

Jon Stadler – A solid defender transferred from Oregon State to Milwaukee after his freshman season. Steady backline presence earned him Second Team All-Horizon League honors following his junior season. Stadler set career-highs in games playing all 19 games logging 1,634 minutes. He helped his team record six shutouts.

“I honestly didn’t think we would sign Jon this year, as he recently finished up with college career and was really close to singing a pro contract.  I’m a bit surprised he hasn’t latched on somewhere to be honest, but I think I can speak for all us here at the club when I say we are delighted to welcome him back.  He brings great experience, leadership and passion each and every day and he will certainly strengthen our back line this year as we look to improve on that from last year.  Our goal for Jon is to make sure he has a good campaign for us, stays in good form and hopefully gets picked up by a USL club.” Says John Galas

Willie Spurr – A four year starter at the Evergreen State College, Spurr helped lead his team to its best record in school history his senior season. Spurr notched 25 goals and 11 assists in 72 collegiate games. He earned himself Cascade Collegiate Conference Newcomer of the Year his freshman season and All-CCC First Team accolades all for years. He achieved All-American Honorable Mention his final season. Spurr has also competed with the TimbersU23s and the Kitsap Pumas.
“Willie brings great experience in this league, most recently having played for the Timbers U-23’s last year in their inaugural season in Salem.  He was a key part of their success last year and brings a wealth of technical ability, and can play in a variety of attacking positions.  He fits our style of play well and I think he will enjoy his time here at the club.” – John Galas
