Lane United Adds Friendlies to 2017 Schedule
EUGENE, Ore. — Lane United FC has added three friendlies to its 2017 schedule, including a home-and-home series with Southern Oregon Starphire FC and a home match against FC Cougars.
The Reds will host the Starphire at Willamalane on Tuesday, June 13, followed by a return trip on Wednesday, July 12 to Ashland High School where LUFC will play the Starphire on Walter A. Phillips Field. Both matches are scheduled for a 7pm kickoff.
Southern Oregon Starphire FC is entering its first season of play in the Pacific Premier League. Originally known as the Southern Oregon Fuego, the club was one of two teams to play Lane United in its 2013 exhibition series, along with the Timbers U23’s after the Reds secured their PDL franchise. Fuego competed in the NPSL in 2009 and 2010, making the divisional playoffs in their season after posting a 4-7-1 record and finishing fourth in the Western Division.
Local club FC Cougars was founded by Puma Gonzales in 2007 and is one of the oldest clubs in Liga Unida. They will visit Willamalane on May 19 for a 7:30pm kickoff. It’s the first ever matchup between Lane United and FC Cougars.
Both home matches against FC Cougars and Starphire FC will be included in the Lane United Annual Member season ticket package for 2017.
Lane United enters its fourth season of play in the Northwest Division of the Premier Development League in 2017. The first match of the year is scheduled for a 7pm kickoff at Willamalane on May 5 against Northwest Christian University. The Reds first home league match will be at 7:30pm on May 26 when the TSS FC Rovers visit from Vancouver, BC.
