Lane United Earns Important Away Point at Calgary

June 17, 2017

Lane United notched its third away point of the PDL season Friday in a 0-0 draw with Calgary Foothills FC at the Calgary Soccer Center.

The Reds (5-2-3 Overall, 2-2-3 PDL) sit at nine points in the Northwest Division, just one behind third place Portland Timbers U23 who played to a 2-2 draw with TSS FC Rovers.

After struggling with consistency on the road throughout the season, taking a point in the first of two weekend matches with the Northwest Division leader is great start to an important weekend.

Goalkeeper Ximo Miralles had an excellent save off a Calgary free kick from Ali Musse, helping him record a clean sheet against a side that had not been held scoreless all season until Friday.

Head coach John Galas was looking for his team to follow the game plan and play their style heading into the tough travel weekend and the Reds were able to accomplish that in the first match.

“I’m pleased with the performance,” Galas said. “The boys worked hard and followed the game plan. Looking forward to Sunday, we need to be as committed defensively, stay organized and be a bit more brave going forward.”

Lane United and Calgary Foothills FC will meet Sunday at 1pm PT for the second match of the weekend as the Reds look to continue moving up the PDL Northwest Division table.

The Reds return home Thursday, June 22 for a big matchup with in-state and division rival Portland Timbers U-23 at 7:30pm. Click here to get your print-at-home tickets and help us stay undefeated at home!
