Lane United Introduces Third Kit
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 5/23/17
EUGENE — Lane United FC will unveil its third kit for the 2017 season at the Reds’ PDL home opener on Friday, May 26 when TSS FC Rovers visit the Les Schwab Sports Park for a 7:30pm kickoff.
A collaboration between LUFC, Oakshire Brewing, GloryBee, and hummel, the third kit is designed to raise awareness and fundraising for the SAVE the BEE project, created to help declining honey bee populations in the Northwest.
The yellow kit features black script and the label of Oakshire’s SAVE the BEE farmhouse ale as a right sleeve patch. Beginning with Friday’s match, Lane United will donate 10% of all proceeds from sales of the kits to the SAVE the BEE project.
“I am really excited to be able to offer a third kit this season,” Lane United Managing Director Dave Galas said. “With the wonderful support of hummel and Oakshire Brewing we were able to put together a third kit that looks sharp, offers a nice option should we be playing a team in red and white, and further supports a wonderful cause.”
Honey bee population has been declining over the last 40 years due to colony collapse disorder, with nearly 50 percent population losses being reported in 2017 thus far. Action is needed now more than ever as beekeepers have lost an average of 38% of their hives each winter since 2010. Furthermore, one out of every three bites of food you eat is pollinated by bees.
Since the inception of SAVE the BEE, GloryBee has raised nearly $200,000 for important bee research and conservation.
“GloryBee started the SAVE the BEE cause to raise awareness of the impact honey bees have on our community’s food supply,” says RaeJean Wilson, executive vice-president of GloryBee and lifelong Eugene resident. “Having a sports team like Lane United join us in inspiring people to take action is bringing the SAVE the BEE message to a whole new audience. Working together we can accomplish something bigger than ourselves and make a difference.”
Lane United’s official kit launch party is set for June 1 from 6-8pm at the Oakshire Brewing Public House where the Reds’ home and away hummel kits for the 2017 season will be unveiled.
