May 25, 2018

Centennial Stadium, Victoria– Tonight’s match against the Victoria Highlanders was a battle of midfields with the home team Highlanders edging out the LUFC Reds on a 1-0 win.

The first half was evenly matched with one good chance for the Red’s narrowly missing on the first goal of the game. Going into half at a 0-0 stalemate, led the Highlanders to come out with a quick start and scored early in the second half. In the 49th minute a cross from the right side of the field that was cleared to the top of the box to the feet of Cory Bent who calmly placed the ball in the back of the net.

“Certainly disappointed with the result.  0-0 at the break and to come out of the dressing room and concede within 4 minutes was disappointing.  We did some good things tonight, had a few chances, but we are not playing with the focus we need to get results in this ever so tough division.  We will have to regroup, and come prepared for a battle on Sunday vs the Sounders who are coming off a draw vs TSS tonight.  Up 2-0 and to concede two goals in the closing minutes certainly won’t make coach Sawatsky pleased, we will be in a dog fight Sunday. “

This result brings Lane United to a 1-2-0 record. The Reds next game will be Sunday, May 27th at 2:00pm for the second match up this season against the Sounders U-23.
