Match Recap: LUFC vs Starphire FC

May 10, 2018

Medford, OR – Last night’s match against Starphire FC was an eventful, quick paced match which proved to be a great chance for LUFC to improve in the attack and tighten up on defense. Lane United started the scoring in the 18th minute which was followed quickly by a second in the 21st minute, both by Sam Engle. Those two goals were then followed by two more goals before half time taking LUFC into half time with a commanding 4-0 lead. The third goal was scored by Anthony Macchione at the 3oth minute and the fourth just before half in the 44th minute.

The second half proved to be less eventful on the score sheet for Lane United, but not in the quality of soccer. Despite the Reds having the majority of the possession and chances on goal, they notched only one more goal but managed to give up two goals bringing the score line to 5-2.

“Pleased with the performance last night.  I thought we pressed exceptionally well at times and worked tremendously hard to regain possession once lost.  Obviously scoring 5 goals is a positive, with Sam Engle notching two quality goals.  It was a welcomed addition to have Anthony Macchione back in the mix for us, and overall it was a very professional performance.  We were able to get everyone minutes, avoid injuries and ultimately get a result.  We certainly appreciate Starphire hosting us as we look to continue to improve for our opener at TSS Rovers next week. “ Said Coach john Galas.

The Red’s next match will be a big test as they kick off PDL Northwest conference league play against TSS FC Rovers on Monday night, May 14th. The game will be held at Swanguard Stadium in Vancouver and kicks off at 7:00 PM.
