May 7, 2018

Eugene, OR- Saturday evening, Lane United FC faced local NAIA college side Northwest Christian University. NCU was coming off of a historic season where they saw their first post season appearance that landed them in the semi finals of their conference championship.

NCU proved to be a worthy opponent when they opened the scoring up in the 6th minute. Lane United responded quickly with the tying goal in the 11th minute by midfielder Willie Spurr. Despite the majority of opportunities being had by Lane United, the Beacons held LUFC to just that one goal.

The second half showed a little different for both sides as the game opened up and both teams were trying for the go ahead goal. LUFC had the majority of the chances with 25 shots on goal to NCU’s 5. NCU’s most dangerous opportunity came late in the game in the 78th minute as the game was getting stretched and both teams were pushing forward. A quick counter attack led to a great early cross in from the right side of the field landing on the head of NCU’s forward who was alone on the top of the box. LUFC’s keeper, Armenta scooped it up without any harm.

Lane United’s more dangerous chances happened in the second half where two good shots clanged off of the cross bar and went high.

“Great early test for us as we continue to prepare for TSS Rovers in our league opener. We saw some wonderful moments in the match, and certainly a few things we need to improve on. We certainly appreciate NCU playing us as we prepare for an extremely competitive season. Individually we saw some good things, and collectively yes we controlled much of the match but we made a few costly mistakes, which we will need to eradicate. I thought Sergio Diaz had a positive showing, as well as Casey ChubbFertal. I think we will be very entertaining going forward this year. “ Says coach John Galas.

The Reds next two matches are away. The first taking place this coming Wednesday, May 9th against Starphire FC at Ashland High School at 7:30pm. That is followed by Lane United’s league opener against TSS FC rovers at Swanguard Stadium in Vancouver.
