Lane United FC is introducing three more players to its roster: Will Seymore, who is a former Oregon State Beaver and a 2015 MLS SuperDraft pick, and two more Spaniards, Cristian Cataluña and Cristian de Luis. The latter two are the fifth and sixth players, respectively, to join Lane United from the USA Tryouts in Valencia, Spain in March — the first four having been introduced in an announcement last week.

Seymore, who was born in Colorado but raised mostly in England, finished his senior season at Oregon State in 2014, starting in 20 of their 21 matches and being named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team at the end of the season. In all, Seymore started 53 games for the Beavers over his four years in Corvallis. In January, he was chosen with the 14th pick of the third round of the MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas.

The two Spaniards were hand-picked by Lane United directors John and Dave Galas at the USA Tryouts, hosted by the Global Sportainment Group, in Valencia, Spain in March, although their paperwork with the U.S. Soccer Federation did not clear until recently. Cristian Cataluña, an attacking midfielder, most recently played for Massanassa CF, a club in the Valencian regional league in Spain. He was teammates there with the other signing, Cristian de Luis, a 6’1″, skillful center-half who will provide the Reds with significant size and experience in the back line. Both players will arrive in Eugene in early May and spend the season living with homestay families in the area.

Lane United head coach and sporting director John Galas praised the contingent of Spanish players last week, saying, “Each and every one of these players will come in and contribute right away. We had very specific needs position-wise as we went over to Spain, and those voids were filled. We’ve added quality in the defensive line, we’ve added numbers and loads of talent in our midfield, and we have complemented an already explosive and dynamic front line.”

He added today that the acquisition of the vastly experienced Seymore gave the Reds “a player who excelled at the collegiate level at Oregon State, and young man who established himself at the U23 level with the Portland Timbers.  He will provide us with great leadership and experience, which we need in our back line.”

Lane United’s season kicks off on Friday, May 8 with a home match at 7:00 pm against South Sound FC, a team from Tacoma, Washington. The league opener is away to the Portland Timbers U-23s at Providence Park on May 14 — fans wishing to attend can buy tickets from the Red Aces. The home league opener is against last year’s national PDL runners-up Kitsap Pumas on May 16.
