Pro Reds: Training Camp
Three former Lane United standouts, forward Khiry Shelton, goalkeeper Matt Bersano, and defender/midfielder Will Seymore have begun preparations for the 2017 season with their respective professional clubs. Get updated below on how each fared during the 2016 campaign and what to look forward to this year.
Khiry Shelton: NYCFC
Khiry Shelton is entering his third year as a professional with NYCFC. After suffering through an injury-marred rookie year, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign in 2016. Shelton made 22 appearances while starting 13 games and contributed four goals to go along with nine assists. The 2014 Lane United veteran will look to expand his role even farther in 2017 and help NYCFC get back to the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.
Matt Bersano: San Jose Earthquakes
Former Lane United goalkeeper Matt Bersano enters his second season as a pro in training camp with San Jose. Bersano spent his rookie year with Seattle Sounders 2, including getting valuable training time in goal against star Sounders first team players Clint Dempsey and Jordan Morris. He is set to see more time on the field in 2017.
Will Seymore: Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2
Seymore, who played seven games with Lane United in 2015 before getting signed by Vancouver Whitecaps FC enters his third season as a professional. In 2016, Seymore started 18 games and tallied two assists while making 23 appearances in his first full season with Whitecaps FC 2.
